Philips Hue

How do NEXENTRO actuators operate using Philips HUE Bridge?

In order that NEXENTRO actuators can operate with a Philips Hue Bridge, the NEXENTRO actuators have first to be introduced into the Zigbee network of the Philips Hue Bridge.

  1. Start the device search in the Philips Hue app under Settings → ‘ Lamps → ‘” +” → select “Add luminaire” search
  2. Set the NEXENTRO actuators into pairing mode by selecting ‘Join Network’ in the NEXENTRO Config app. Factory-new NEXENTRO actuators are automatically in pairing mode for 60 seconds after the supply voltage is applied.
  3. The actuators are displayed as On/Off light, Dimmable light or Color temperature light depending on the actuator. The NEXENTRO actuators can be integrated into rooms, zones and routines like any other Hue Bridge compatible product.

For better identification of the individual actuators, the device names can be changed in the lamp settings of the Philips Hue app.
The operation of the NEXENTRO actuators is carried out as normal over the Philips Hue App.

Note on the NEXENTRO blind actuator: It is not possible to control and configure the NEXENTRO blind actuator via the Philips Hue App, as the Philips Bridge does not send control commands for blinds. The blind actuator can only take over routing functions in the Philips Hue network. To do this, it must also be brought into the network of the Philips Hue Bridge:

  1. Carry out the steps described above in the same way.
  2. The blind actuator joins the network but is not shown in the Philips Hue App. In the Philips Hue App the message “No new devices found” is displayed. This is correct because the Philips Hue Bridge does not recognise the blind actuator. Therefore, ignore this message.

Operation is currently only possible via NEXENTRO push button interfaces that are taught-in in the same network.

Note on the NEXENTRO push button interface: It is not possible to control and configure the NEXENTRO push button interface via the Philips Hue App. The push button interface is a transmitter that is used independently of the gateway to operate actuators and lamps. To do this the push button interface must also be brought into the network of the Philips Hue Bridge:

  1. Perform the steps described above in the same way.
  2. The push button interface joins the network but is not shown in the Philips Hue App. The Philips Hue App displays the message “No new devices found”. This is correct because the Philips Hue Bridge does not recognise the push button interface. Therefore, ignore this message.
  3. Configure the push button interface with the NEXENTRO Config App and connect it to the desired actuators and lamps.

How to connect two brand-new NEXENTRO devices to each other without a gateway

For a NEXENTRO actuator to be controlled by another NEXENTRO device, both devices have to be in the same network. For example, should a NEXENTRO dimming actuator be operated via the NEXENTRO push-button interface, the coupling of both devices takes place with the help of the NEXENTRO Config App.

  1. Coupling devices with the NEXENTRO Config App Firstly, both devices have to be coupled via Bluetooth with the NEXENTRO Config App.
  2. Creating the Zigbee network and adding a device The push-button interface, for example, via the function call “Create Network” in the App create a Zigbee network that is open for other devices. To add the dimming actuator to the Zigbee network it must be set to the coupling mode. This can be done by switching on the mains voltage or via the function “Join Network” in the NEXENTRO Config App. After a successful search, the dimming actuator joins the open NEXENTRO network. This operation can be done in the same way for all Zigbee 3.0 devices and lamps Note: Remember the device with which you created the NEXENTRO network. Only this device can be used to integrate additional devices into the NEXENTRO network.
  3. Connecting push-button interface and dimming actuator

To connect the push-button interface with the dimming actuator, the inputs of the push-button interface are configured first. After confirmation of the configuration, the push-button interface automatically searches for devices of the Zigbee network and displays these in a list. Now the dimming actuator can be connected or disconnected at the desired input by selecting it from the list. This operation can be done in the same way for all Zigbee 3.0 devices and lamps.

How to extend an existing Zigbee network of NEXENTRO devices by another brand-new NEXENTRO device

Note: Other devices can be integrated in the Zigbee network via the NEXENTRO device with which you created the Zigbee network.

  1. Starting the search for new devices In the NEXENTRO Config App the device is selected with which the Zigbee network was created. With an actuator (e.g. dimming actuator), the search for new devices starts immediately. With the push-button interface, the search for new devices starts after the configuration of the inputs has been confirmed.
  2. New NEXENTRO device: Starting the search for the open Zigbee network The new NEXENTRO device can be set to the coupling mode by either switching on the mains voltage or if this is already done, in the NEXENTRO Config App via the function selection “Join Network”. In coupling mode, the new device searches for an open Zigbee network and joins it.
  3. Connect devices.

To connect the devices to each other, the new device is selected from the list of found devices. The connection is successful.

How to extend an existing Zigbee network of NEXENTRO devices by a brand-new lamp

Note: Other devices can be integrated into the NEXENTRO network via the device with which you created the NEXENTRO network.

  2. Lamp: Starting the search for the open Zigbee network The search for an open Zigbee network is started by switching on the voltage at the lamp. The lamp automatically joins the found network and is displayed in the list of found devices for all suitable NEXENTRO devices of the network.
  3. Connecting a lamp with a NEXENTRO device of the network

To connect a device and lamp, select the lamp from the list. The lamp is connected to a NEXENTRO device.

How to integrate a non-NEXENTRO transmitter into a Zigbee network of NEXENTRO devices and to connect it to a Zigbee device

A non-NEXENTRO transmitter can only be integrated into a Zigbee network if the Zigbee transmitter can independently search for and join an open Zigbee network.

  1. Setting the Zigbee transmitter to coupling mode To integrate the Zigbee transmitter into the existing Zigbee network, the search for open networks is first started at the transmitter.
  2. NEXENTRO Config App: Starting the device search In the NEXENTRO Config App the device is selected with which the network was created. With a NEXENTRO actuator e.g. dimming actuator, the search for a new device starts immediately. If the NEXENTRO network was created with a push-button interface, the search for new devices is started after confirming the configuration of the inputs. During this time the network is open and the transmitter can join the Zigbee network.
  3. Connecting transmitters and Zigbee devices

Lamp: Once the transmitter has joined the network, it can e.g. be connected to a lamp in the network. To do this, use Touchlink to teach-in the lamp to the transmitter, see the transmitter’s instructions. NEXENTRO actuator: In the App, select “Enable Touchlink” for the NEXENTRO actuator and then connect the transmitter to the actuator via Touchlink.

How to add new NEXENTRO devices to a Zigbee network if the NEXENTRO device used to create the Zigbee network no longer exists

In this case no new device can be added to the Zigbee network. The devices in the Zigbee network must be removed from the network one by one and a new Zigbee network set up. The following options are available for removing NEXENTRO devices from the NEXENTRO network: In the NEXENTRO Config App: Select the “Leave network” function.

Device is displayed in the NEXENTRO Config App in the “Found Devices” list as “Unknown Device” and has a warning triangle instead of the device icon

Cause 1: Not all device data was received by the app to identify the device. The transmission of the data took too long; this can occur, for example, if the distance to the device exeeds a defined mimimum distance. Cause 2: A factory reset has just been performed on the device and the device is just rebooting. Remedy:

  • After a short waiting time (approx. 10 seconds), restart the device search again. Generally the device will then be displayed correctly.

If this is not the case, carry out the following steps:

  • Add the device to the “Registered devices” list
  • Select the device
  • Perform a factory reset or alternatively, if offered, perform a device update

Device is displayed in the NEXENTRO Config App in the “Registered Devices” list as “Unknown Device” and has a warning triangle instead of the device icon.

Cause 1: Es wurde ein GerĂ€te-Update ausgefĂŒhrt, und das GerĂ€t fĂŒhrt gerade einen Neustart durch. Remedy:

  • After a short waiting time (approx. 10 seconds), select the device again. Generally the device is then displayed correctly.

Cause 2: A device update was carried out which was not successful. Remedy:

  • Select devices
  • Repeat device update

NEXENTRO push button interface

What is the purpose of the NEXENTRO push button interface?

The push button interface is responsible for the direct radio control of actuators, lamps, lights and blinds. Usually, this is done in combination with an existing network belonging to the gateway of one of the many manufacturers. Therefore, it represents an additional control point within a Zigbee network. Here, the NEXENTRO push-button interface is first introduced to an existing Zigbee network and is then connected to the appropriate devices using the NEXENTRO Config App. Network access is the same as for the NEXENTRO actuators, however not all gateway apps display the push button interface. Should the access be successful then the NEXENTRO App will show the devices to which the interface can be connected to.

Why is it sometimes necessary to operate twice before a device or lamp responds?

If several lamps in a group are operated by different devices, it is possible that the lamps have different switching states and are synchronised when first operated, e.g. all are switched off. Whether it is switched on or off depends on the switching status of a so-called reference lamp. With actuators, this “reference lamp” is always the own switching state, with the push-button interface this is a lamp connected to the push-button interface or an actuator connected to the push-button interface. In this case, it may therefore be necessary to operate twice before the lamps in a group have the desired switching state. When dimming, it can happen that only a double actuation leads to the desired result as the dimming direction changes with every new long actuation.

Device configuration

How to reset a NEXENTRO device to factory settings

There are different procedures for resetting NEXENTRO actuators to factory settings, which are described below. The push-button interface can only be reset to factory settings via the NEXENTRO Config App. because it has no “Prog.” button. Via the NEXENTRO Config App:

  1. Select the device in the app from the list of registered devices.
  2. Open the “Settings” of the device.
  3. Select “Factory reset”.
  4. Confirm reset to factory settings. A factory reset is performed.
  5. To pair the device with the NEXENTRO Config App again, delete it beforehand from the NEXENTRO Config App and, for iOS devices, also from the list of paired Bluetooth devices.

With the “Prog:“ button:

  1. The load of the actuator must be switched off. Press the “Prog.” button for longer than 20 seconds until the LED flashes rapidly alternating between red and green.
  2. Within 10 seconds, release the “Prog.” button and press it again briefly (less than 1 second).
  3. The LED flashes red and green alternately at a slower rate. The operation was successful and the actuator is reset to factory settings.
  4. To pair the actuator with the NEXENTRO Config App again, delete it beforehand from the NEXENTRO Config App and, for iOS devices, also from the list of paired Bluetooth devices.

By interrupting the supply voltage: No complete reset to factory settings is carried out, only all Zigbee and Bluetooth connections are deleted. The assigned name and the set parameters are retained. To start the process, the supply voltage is switched on and off again several times. The pause between two switching processes must not be longer than 2 seconds. Requirement: Supply voltage is switched off.

  1. Switch the supply voltage as follows: On -> Off -> On -> Off -> On ->Off -> On ->Off -> On
  2. The load is switched once or blinds move briefly in both directions. The connection to the Zigbee and Bluetooth network is deleted.
  3. To pair the device with the NEXENTRO Config App again, delete it from the NEXENTRO Config App beforehand from the NEXENTRO Config App and, for iOS devices, also delete it from the list of paired Bluetooth devices.

How to add new NEXENTRO devices to a Zigbee network if the NEXENTRO device used to create the Zigbee network no longer exists

In this case, no new devices can be added to the NEXENTRO network. A new network must be set up. To do this, all devices must be removed from the network individually.

  1. Remove NEXENTRO devices from the network. To do this, either In the NEXENTRO Config App: select the “Leave network” function or reset NEXENTRO devices to factory settings, see “How to reset a NEXENTRO device to factory settings”.
  2. Reset all existing lamps and devices from other manufacturers. Refer to the instructions for these units for the procedure.
